Wound healing through gel derived platelets

A gel derived from platelets would be very effective to heal wounds, not only would do so in less time, but also better quality than with conventional methods.

The study was conducted by U.S. researchers and was to take blood samples from eight healthy patients older than 21 years, then they made 5 of wounds from 4 mm to 3 cm apart in the thighs. Then we applied the hand of an autologous platelet gel, and another antibiotic ointment or bandages.

The wounds were monitored for 6 months and at the end of that period took skin biopsies from the wounds of each leg. The results showed that at 17 days, the wounds treated with autologous gel had been closed by 81%, while those treated conventionally were closed by 57%.

The researchers concluded that autologous platelet gel could improve the treatment of wounded skin deep, however it is very early to venture and we need more research so that it begins to deploy permanently.
