What Should Women Eat During Menopause?

When a woman experience a cessation of menstruation she undergo menopause and this varies from individuals to another. Natural Menopause, which is not surgically induced, can start as early as the late 40s in some women up to their mid-50s. During menopause women experience some hormonal imbalances in their bodies.

There are specific information on food, nutrition for women who are in their menopausal stage. Women should include food sources that are rich in calcium such as green leafy vegetables, low-fat dairy, fish and calcium supplements. Different kind of fruits and vegetables of different colors for their antioxidant, folic and B vitamins potency should be consumed.

Get most of your carbohydrate from complex unprocessed sources such as starchy root, fruits, grains and cereals. To help increase calcium excretion have an adequate protein from lean meats, fish and legumes. Also include soy, flax and other plant foods rich in phytoestrogen in the diet. Try to consume limited amounts of refined starches.

It's best that you consume foods with less saturated fat. Caffeine should be reduced, and refrain from drinking beverages such as alcohol. Reducing spices will help prevent menopause hot flashes and other discomfort. Your daily diet should be low in sodium. Adequate amount of fluid should be consumed daily. Increase your fiber intake from natural sources to, among other benefits, ensure regular bowel movements. Fatty diets should be avoided as improper nutrition can lead to feelings of fatigue which can worsen some of the menopause symptoms. Adopt a sensible eating plan from a wide variety of foods. Increase daily activities by adding enjoyable and worthwhile tasks to your daily routine.
