Tartar Forming On Teeth And Beneath The Gumline Causes Swollen Gums

The sticky, colorless film that forms on our teeth is known as plaque. The harmful oral bacteria grow faster behind this layer of plaque because the oxygen present in your saliva cannot penetrate behind the thin film. The plaque that is not removed hardens and becomes tartar. While plaque is easily removed by brushing and flossing done with proper techniques, tartar is too hard to eradicate, thus requiring to be scraped away by a dental professional. Leaving tartar to remain on teeth and gums makes bacteria feed on it causing the gradual development of swollen gums leading to gum disease and eventual tooth loss.
