Genetic variation predisposes "psoriasis"
The disease hardens, red or scaled various areas of the skin
A common genetic variation in a gene of the human body's immune system makes it much more likely the development of psoriasis, an inflammatory disease of the skin, reported today a team from the University of Michigan (USA).
The skin cells grow into the deeper layers of skin tissue and emerge slowly to the surface in a process that takes about a month.
Psoriasis in the United States affects about 2 percent of the population, makes these cells will emerge more quickly, causing flakes and inflammation of the skin.
In most cases psoriasis generates areas of hardened skin, redness or scales that can cause itching.
The affected areas are the most frequent elbows, knees, scalp, face, palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
"In psoriasis, strep is a very common initial precursor," said the researcher. "It activates the immune system to attack the bacteria. But once the strep infection has been eliminated, the immune system begins to attack the cells of the affected skin."
About 25 percent of people who suffer from psoriasis eventually develop psoriatic arthritis, a condition that can be severe.
This study, which examined 2723 people from 678 families in which at least one member suffering from the disease, could lead to new treatments more effective in combating the disease, without the risks and side effects of existing therapies.
The results of the study, which is the most comprehensive analysis on the gene for psoriasis to date, will be published in May in the journal "American Journal of Human Genetics"
That to drop the snail baba.
The substance of this mollusk prevents aging and treats cellulite
You do not have to allow a snail will walk on his face. The technology of today has developed products for the baba of this mollusk can be applied directly from a jar. The benefits: a skin smooth, free from wrinkles, blemishes and cellulite.
The creams prepared from this substance can be used on a daily basis.
New technology measures the wrinkles and predicts the future of the skin.
It allows, among other things, calculate how many hours of sunshine can be taken.
The latest in the care of the face creams are not the only technology able to calculate how many hours can a sun without burning, represent the wrinkles on a chart or predict the chances of suffering skin cancer.
This technology might come from pearls to whom they suspect of little less than miraculous capabilities that promise to cosmetics, because it can be determined scientifically if they work or not.
Clarity Pro, as it is called the product in question, to know what percentage of the skin of the face is wrinkled, is suffering from too much sun exposure or prolonged by bacteria, resulting in inflamed pores.
The product also allows to estimate how many hours of sunshine can be taken in the future depending on the type and condition of the skin.
All this makes it a valuable tool for physicians and aestheticians, who could recommend products or surgical procedures more informed choices and, moreover, show to the patients before and after treatments.
It is the latest chapter in the convergence between technology and dermatology.
Both fields are growing more help each other, as shown by the growing number of cosmetics manufacturers in their efforts to adopt technologies from Silicon Valley to lead the toilet sophisticated creams.
In an attempt to get the magic potion killed more than a few ideas that once were considered bright.
The industry strives to prove to these and other refined sugar, but for consumers there is no guarantee the effectiveness of these technologies.
The problem is that the creams are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which means that the government does not support its effectiveness.
Moreover, in most cases the treatments are very new to have passed the test of time, and this must be added the inherent ambiguity of the remedies that promise to curb the "evil" of old age.
Problems that might be overtaken by technologies like Clarity Pro, with tons of publicity about the virtues of the product would have to come accompanied by computer imaging to show that the product was used for something.
