Eczema On Eyelid / eyes
Eczematous lesions of the eyelids may be accompanied by a irritant or allergic contact dermatitis, including an airborne contact dermatitis and atopic dermatitis or seborrhoeic be caused. A redness of the eyelids is also characteristic of hay fever. Common causes for allergic reactions are ingredients in cosmetics (fragrances, balsam of Peru in creams, cobalt chloride in blue mascara), contact lens storage solutions (thiomersal, benzalkonium chloride), nail polish (nickel) and hair spray (acrylates) dar.
Erythema, edema, desquamation and possibly lichenification of the eyelids and the Periorbitalbereichs are characteristic. Sometimes there is only one eyelid edema.
Diagnosis:
A thorough medical history and clinical examination, prick and patch testing are important diagnostic features to distinguish an atopic, allergic or irritant aetiology to differ.
Differential diagnoses:
Thyroid disorders, dermatomyositis, nephropathies, erysipelas and angioedema should be taken into consideration. If only the eyelids are affected, is on possible causes of blepharitis (such as rosacea) is also thinking.
