Comparing Traditional and Natural Toothpaste
Many of us think that toothpaste is toothpaste. It is what we buy in order to brush our teeth and keep our teeth clean and healthy. However, traditional products used to clean our teeth have the potential of doing more harm than good.
Traditional toothpaste contains a substance known as sodium laurel sulfate (SLS). SLS is a foaming agent that when mixed with water and the friction used to brush the teeth forms bubbles. When we see bubbles and foam we typically think that a substance is working and cleaning the teeth and everything within the mouth. Traditional toothpaste also contains other substances in addition to SLS that are harmful to our health and have been known to cause mouth ulcers and rashes around the mouth.
A natural toothpaste is a toothpaste made with natural and herbal ingredients that do not harm the body. The harmful ingredients are eliminated and healthy herbal and organic ingredients are used. Some of the most common herbal and organic ingredients found in natural toothpastes include:
□ Chamomile
□ Echinacea
□ Myrrh
□ Sage
□ Rhatany
These natural toothpastes also contain natural oils which are used to add flavoring to the substance and sometimes are used as a numbing agent to relieve pain. Some of the most common natural oils include:
□ Peppermint
□ Spearmint
□ Clove
□ Ginger
□ Almond
□ Tea tree
For people that use traditional toothpaste they typically will use a mouthwash in order to freshen the breath. However, for those that utilize best natural toothpastes, the need for an extra mouthwash is eliminated because the natural toothpaste contains oils that freshen the breath naturally. Traditional toothpaste also quits working when we are not brushing our teeth and the toothpaste is rinsed out of the mouth once we start eating and drinking. Natural toothpaste lingers within the mouth and it is able to get in between the teeth and gums. Natural toothpaste works continuously at cleaning the oral cavity and killing the problematic bacteria that are within the mouth.
Whether a traditional toothpaste or natural toothpaste is used it is important to brush the teeth at least twice a day and maintain regular visits to the dentist for check-ups and cleanings.
