Bacteria is the root cause of any Oral Health Problem

Swollen gums can be associated with any forms of gum disease such as gingivitis and periodontitis. However there are also some underlying causes why swollen gums occur such as: pregnancy, malnutrition, improper fitting dentures and poor oral hygiene. Bacteria build up can be the root cause of any gum disease.  Bacteria will accumulate along the gum line that makes the gum inflamed and irritated.  Plaque and tartar formed making it as a bacteria haven.

Signs of swollen gums are red, puffy and swelling. Usually when someone experiencing swollen gums it can be abnormally large and protrudes around the teeth area. Swollen gums can sometimes be unnoticed because it does not feel painful at all.  Although there are times that you can feel discomfort as you brush your teeth. As you look at the mirror and seeing your gums recede and teeth may look longer than usual and large spaces develop in between teeth.

Other visible sign of swollen gums is halitosis or bad breath. Gums are tender when touched and bleeds easily. Mouth sores, gum color changes from red to purple and loosing teeth. In some instances swollen gums can be an indicator of a more serious health condition in the future if not treated in time. If you ever experience any of these conditions, this is the right time to visit your oral health expert and have it assess.

Anyway, swollen gums can be treated by practicing good oral hygiene and by doing a swollen gums home remedy. Improving brushing strokes and techniques can be of great help too. Although we cannot avoid bacteria, brushing after every meal cannot guarantee but it helps prevent any form of oral and gum disease. Minute food particles especially starchy and sugary foods left inside the mouth and in between teeth and gums will feed the bacteria. So brushing may not be enough, using dental floss and gargling with anti-bacterial mouthwash and fluoride-contain toothpaste can prevent bacteria from multiplying.

The most simple and easy step to do that can cure for swollen gums can be done at home. Simply mix 1 glass of lukewarm water and 1tablespoon of salt and stir. Use the solution for gargling several times in a day. This helps relieve swollen and puffy gums. Solution of Lemon and lukewarm water may also be an alternative to the traditional water/salt solution as well. Visit your dentist regularly to prevent oral problems and how to treat swollen gums properly.
