Advanced Periodontitis Makes Periodontal Surgery Inevitable
In advanced periodontal disease known as advanced periodontitis, dental pockets become more than 6 mm deep; making periodontal surgery inevitable. Surgical treatments are performed by dentist or periodontist. The gum tissue is removed and the tooth structure is completely cleaned during the periodontal surgery, making it hard for plaque and calculus or tartar to gather. A defect in the bone is the result of the disease whereby the area needs to be reshaped, or there is a great need for a bone graft procedure. The gums have to be stitched around the teeth in a proper place and generally lower than before. Furthermore, the region can be freed from plaque if one observes daily brushing and flossing with proper techniques.
